Can I become a mentee?

Electronics Mentoring is designed for mid-career professionals who already have meaningful workplace experience and want to take greater ownership of their career development.

What does mid-career mean?

Mid-career is a stage, not an age.

Becoming a mentee in our programme is particularly helpful if:

  • You are in management within the electronics industry having moved beyond initial training many years ago
  • You already work independently within the sector and hold some leadership responsibilities
  • You’re ready to take the next step, but feel your career has stalled. Now you’re looking for a different way forward.
  • You want to deepen your expertise or prepare for a more senior leadership role and stand out from the competition
  • You are suffering from 'imposter syndrome' and want greater confidence or to develop more best practises to lean on

Electronics Mentoring is not intended for:

  • People who are completely new to working life
  • Apprentices or those still completing their initial professional training
  • Those approaching retirement

Other considerations before applying

Are you currently on a mentoring programme?

Our programme is not intended to run alongside a formal mentoring programme provided by an applicant’s employer or another organisation.  Participating in two programmes at the same time could create conflicting goals, advice and expectations while duplicating support already available. Applicants currently receiving formal mentoring should complete that programme before applying.

Previous participation does not automatically make someone ineligible, provided they can demonstrate a new need that Electronics Mentoring is well placed to support.

As mentioned, Electronics Mentoring serves a different purpose than the structured teaching, workplace supervision and technical training provided to early career people.

Are you currently on a mentoring programme?

As a mentee, you need to commit to receiving six months of mentorship from February 2027.

Applications are to get underway soon

Places are limited on Electronics Mentoring's first cohort of mentees. Application success is subject to confirmation after a careful matching and evaluation process. More details will be supplied later this year with an official call for mentee applicants being announced soon.
